A problem affecting 10,000 payments at Westpac Bank has left many public sector employees without pay today.

Westpac spokeswoman Hayley Lynch said the bank was still investigating what caused the glitch that stopped wage payments to Government workers going through.

She gave an assurance no-one would be penalised because of the problem.

Staff were working to process all the payments by the end of the day and were hopeful many would go through this afternoon, she said.

\”We’re working on it. We’re doing everything we possibly can to rectify the situation but we’re still investigating.\”
